Ruminations on Comfort

Ruminations on Comfort

I’ve been learning a lot during the filming of this project. A big part of that is realizing I’m not ready to settle down just yet. At one point last year, that idea seemed appealing. I’d spent the few years before that backpacking, without much sense of what I wanted to do with my life. Then I got to spend 2025 in a routine, and it let me do things I couldn’t do before. I got a taste of what it feels like to live in a house, keep a routine, make friends in a new city. And while I was doing that, I could also prioritize my mental and physical health. I trained consistently for a half ironman. I had a garden, friends to grab lunch with on weekends, a routine. I appreciated the cookie-cutter days of doing the same things every day. That life really appealed to me. But.

Something I noticed on the weeks I had work trips is how easily I could forget about all of that. I love the idea of continuing a predictable life, but when I’m out there in the world, nothing compares. It’s easy to get blindsided by comfort. It’s hard because you don’t question if things could be better. I think there’s a balance here. If you’re always chasing something better, you’ll never fully enjoy a place. But my consensus is that I’m 24 years old. I don’t have commitments. I have the ability to experience new things. And I’m not ready for comfort yet. I found that I still very much crave novel experiences in my life. Even when I was very much content, I still thought about things I wanted to do, places I wanted to see. All that being said, I decided I want to find the means to continue pursuing film, Paradyms specifically, and traveling. Perhaps even living in another country.
