THE SERIES
The name Beyond the Noise derives from the feelings that Keoni and Cheryl shared (Directors) — stemming from a growing concern about how much information people take in today, and how overwhelming it can be to discern what’s worth filtering out.
Beyond the Noise is a homage to the people and stories often overlooked — but ironically, the ones people relate to the most. The series explores themes of identity, culture, and belonging across a three-part documentary series, set in Cambodia.

Den
COMMUNITY ARCHITECT, 3CORSECO
Born in a refugee camp and trained as an architect, Den found his way to the Kui community over a decade ago and never really left. He believes in working with communities, not extracting from them.
Somphors
KUI LANGUAGE TEACHER & ADVOCATE
Somphors believes education and knowledge are the only way to keep Kui culture alive. Rather than wait on institutions to preserve it, she lives it publicly — using her voice to keep Kui identity present in the modern world.

Beyond the Noise started as a Zoom call between two people who had never made a documentary before. Seven months later, it premiered to a sold-out theater at the Institut Français du Cambodge in Phnom Penh, on June 19, 2026.

MAKING BEYOND THE NOISE
Pre-production felt like one big experiment — neither of us had done anything like this before. With my background in filmmaking and Cheryl’s in tech and impact, our roles found each other naturally.
We filmed for about a month, 8 to 10 hours most days, often living with the people we were documenting. There were moments I felt genuinely conflicted about whether I should be filming at all.
I quit my job to keep working on this and rebranded my film company to Paradyms right after getting back from Cambodia. The best things don’t come without a cost.
Post-production was its own technical education — I’d never cut anything this size, in another language. We were still finalizing subtitles the night before the premiere.
